In early 2017, I had the pleasure of meeting filmmaker Craig Adkins. He was attending the FSI Transition Center's orientation for incoming spouse/partners, who are just beginning the Foreign Service experience. During my presentation to this group, I always mention how valuable post videos are for employees and families trying to picture what embassy/consulate life might be like at specific posts - including those cities. on the bid list that might be very unfamiliar to them. I have acquired this knowledge from many years of experience managing OBC's post video collection, reviewing every submission, and also receiving feedback from
clients researching posts.
Although, our office provides numerous crucial post-specific related documents, we know that narrated post videos can convey an impression that text or still photos simply cannot offer. During those first two weeks of orientation, generalists and specialists often spend a significant amount of after-hours research viewing post audiovisuals - both individually and as a group to glean insights on cities for which they sometimes have little prior knowledge.

As the former FMO/HRO of U.S. Embassy Lisbon, we contracted with Craig Adkins Media to produce the Lisbon Post Video. Since the budget was under $10,000, we were able to find the funds for this project and contract with minimal bureaucracy. It was also excellent value for money, as the end product will be relevant for many years of bidding cycles.
CAM produced a video that very accurately defined the work, living, and enjoyment of this incredible Post, city and country. But capturing all of what makes Lisbon and our Mission special was an enormous challenge, as each member of our leadership team seemed to have a unique perspective on what should be highlighted. Craig somehow managed to accommodate the many divergent views in to a comprehensive video, while also ensuring a reasonable duration. I am confident bidders will gain a deeper understanding of work and life at this post in just the few short minutes it takes to watch the end product.
